In offering a wide range of veterinary care for your dog, cat, rabbit, ferret, bird, reptile or other pet we may need to perform anesthesia in some situations. This can be concerning for some owners. Circle Veterinary Clinic has at our disposal a wide assortment of drugs to perform the safest anesthesia possible for your beloved pet in his or her unique health condition. These include injectable medications and inhalant anesthesia which is breathed in through a tube (endotracheal tube). Whenever a pet is under anesthesia one of our technicians is assessing your pet's condition directly and by carefully evaluating 7 vital signs on our anesthesia monitor and recording these assessments. IV fluids are administered in most cases and as needed. Your pet's body temperature is maintained using a warm air system (Bair Hugger) as well. Recovery from anesthesia is also monitored. We also stress pain management and use appropriate medications to try to eliminate any pain your pet may be experiencing. All this is to ensure a safe and comfortable recovery to allow your pet a prompt return to your home.
